Interesting arguments. Some thoughts:
* Given the higher density of criminals and crazy people, I feel a much stronger desire to carry guns in SF than I do back in Idaho.
* Most people don't understand that rent control/NIMBY regulations are the primary reason the cost of housing in cities is so high. City living would actually be less costly than country living (due to efficiencies of scale), if developers were allowed to build sufficient housing to meet the need.
* Rather than "turn" people liberal, cities may select for people who are already liberal. If you're a liberal, you'll likely chafe at the mores common in the country, and vice versa.
