Imagine that she was fighting to take a non-FDA approved medicine, or hire the services of a medical provider who didn't have a government permission slip.  Or even if she wanted to buy birth control over the counter. Now consider how you're progressive friends would react to striking down the laws that allow the state to insert itself into those medical decisions.  Do you think they'd respect the patient's medical privacy and bodily autonomy then? IME, progressives are just as authoritarian--albeit in a different way--as social conservatives when it comes to blocking access to potentially life-saving medicine.
