Daniel Way Writers have to obey the rules of the world's they create. If you establish that yours is a fantasy world where magic spells require blood sacrifice in proportion to the power of the spell, you can't depict a wizard casting the same spell following sacrifice of a small child in one scene, and a mouse in another. If anything goes, there's no dramatic tension. Similarly, Reacher is set in non-magical US close to the present day. Reacher is supposedly a real world firearms expert. So he can't spout nonsense about current firearms law or practice without breaking the plausibility of the story.
